The Emergency Kit
Every wedding planner has an emergency bridal kit, it’s a standard practice. Most of them have things like stain remover, a sewing kit, aspirin, feminine hygiene products and a few other things.
Our kit has the usual suspects,
*a sewing kit because yes, we have had to sew a bride into her dress when her seam split.
*Stain remover, well we have used this more times than we can count
*extra makeup and disposable brushes because there is always that one person who didn’t get their makeup done or didn’t like the way it was done
*curling iron and straighteners, because we have had one hairstylist show up with one straightener to do the hair of 6 girls and the bride in 90 min. (yes we had to step in and help and no we don’t always have control over who our couples hire)
*we have false eyelashes and scissors, Tylenol, Advil and feminine hygiene products
But let me tell you about some of the non-standard items we have…
we have tooth glue- we once had a bride that had a dream her crown fell off right before she walked down the aisle, so we assured her that we had tooth glue in case that happened. She didn’t use it but several months later a father of the bride lost his crown right before he walked his daughter down the aisle, so glad we had the glue.
we have memory cards, at one wedding we had the photographers forget their spare memory cards, now we carry spare memory cards
how about those wrinkles in the clothing, we have a steamer because yes, sometimes your attendants forget and their attire is wrinkled when they start to get dressed.
we have heel savers because many times our brides or their mothers forgot to think about the fact that their beautiful shoes will probably sink into the grass and ruin their shoes.
AND
we have fake rings. I know this sounds silly but we once had a bride who left her rings in the limo, the limo was long gone by the time she realized it. Once notified, he was turning around to bring them back, but we were losing daylight and the venue for her outdoor ceremony did not have lights. (like I said we don’t always get to choose the vendors and our clients don’t always take all of our reccomendations) So the options were, continue on with the ceremony or…have no pictures of the ceremony. After talking the bride off the ledge and discussing it with her, it was decided that we would use her grandparents rings for the creamy and as soon as hers arrived they would be blessed and then the photographer would get pictures of them in the reception location of their actual exchange and rings.
SO as you can see, experience has played a large part in the “supplies” of our bridal kit. There is never any charge for anything that is used and we just keep adding to the kit as we come across more scenarios.
It happens many times that another vendor forgets something (as you can see) but what is important is that we all play together as a team to make sure that our couples have the best day ever.
So when you are looking for your planner, make sure you ask them about their emergency kit…its contents may help save your day.
